While we wait for Landmark’s decision on the now calendared four buildings + a Historic District, check out the new interactive map, Discover NYC Landmarks, detailing information on nearly 34,000 historic buildings with the City’s 141 historic districts.
Of special interest to Harlem and East Harlem will be The First Spanish Methodist Church, aka The People’s Church, located at 163 East 111th Street, which has historic significance associated with the Young Lords in the ’60s and early ’70s, and The Central Harlem – West 130-132nd Street Historic District, with a rich cultural history from the Harlem Renaissance to the Civil Rights movement. A decision on Landmarking expected later this month.
