The New York City Department of Transportation Art (DOT ART) installed a new, commissioned piece by the artist Harumi Ori on Staten Island.
In keeping with her “I Am Here” series of sculptures, Harumi Ori created a 100-foot long by 8-feet high series of images located on the corner of Bay Street and Victory Boulevard in Staten Island. The orange mesh figures originated from the artist taking photos at that location, day after day, at the exact same time, and from the same vantage point – photographing an endless parade of “humans, cars, and even birds.” Interestingly, each photo is completely different.

Plastic mesh is the material used to create images, and if you have been in and around that location over this past three months, you might just be one of the figures recreated for this installation. The installation, I Am Here, will be on view for eleven months on the corner of Bay Street and Victory Boulevard in Staten Island.
