The illusive, renowned street artist, Banksy has been painting the town. Yesterday, West 14th Street ~ today, The Bowery Wall.

Once again, announcing his message on Instagram, Banksy unveiled The Bowery Wall’s latest work. It is a 70-foot message focusing on the plight of Turkish artist, Zehra Dogan, who was sentenced one-year ago to two years and nine months in prison for simply ~ painting a picture.

The painting was of a Kurdish town, which had been reduced to rubble after an attack by the Turkish Government’s armed forces.  The Government photograph showed Turkish flags draped over destroyed buildings. Dogan’s watercolor of this image was posted to social media, and she was arrested shortly after.

The Banksy Bowery Wall mural coincides with the one-year anniversary of Dogan’s imprisonment, and the artist is featured in the mural ~ behind bars.

Alongside the mural is a call for her release.
