Matthew Whitaker Celebrates Release of New Album ‘Connection’ at Harlem Stage on September 25th

 

 

 

Jazz prodigy Matthew Whitaker will be celebrating the release of his new album, Connection, with a live concert at Harlem Stage on Saturday, September 25th at 7:30pm!

Whitaker’s new album not only communicates his growth as a player, composer, and bandleader but also the importance of community and the connections it fosters. Having been musically trained in Harlem, it’s fitting for Whitaker to debut his new album at the Harlem Stage Gatehouse, celebrating his ties to the city that has shaped him as one of the leading artists of his generation.

Save the dates because it’s only a two-day event ~ Thursday, August 12th at Bryant Park and Friday, August 13th at Marcus Garvey Park, and it’s the culmination of Harlem Stage’s Afrofuturism series that launched in 2019 as a citywide, multi-venue held at Harlem Stage, Park Avenue Armory, and Metropolitan Museum of Art, celebrating Sun Ra’s legacy.

Celebrate Harlem Stage with a Virtual Celebration ~ May 18th

On Monday May 18, 2020 at 7:00pm, Harlem Stage, the legendary uptown performing arts venue will host an online premiere celebration on Facebook and Instagram in place of its annual spring gala. Due to the COVID-19 crisis, Harlem Stage is forced to cancel its in person event but is pleased to premiere a virtual event to be enjoyed by all arts and culture lovers. ​

Harlem Stage ~ 2019 Fall Calendar is a Celebration of the Centennial of the Harlem Renaissance

This season, Harlem Stage will celebrate the centennial legacy of the Harlem Renaissance and offer a yearlong initiative focusing on Sun Ra and Afrofuturism. Through these two powerful themes, which will carry into the 2020 season, Harlem Stage will reflect on and celebrate the past, present and artistic future of Harlem and explore how the Harlem Renaissance continues to be a rich source of inspiration across the globe while Afrofuturism continues to push the boundaries of our artistic imagination.

Harlem Stage Celebrates the 20th Anniversary of E-Moves: A Signature Dance Series

From May 2-4 and 9-11, 2019, Harlem Stage’s signature dance series E-Moves celebrates its 20th anniversary. Throughout its history, E- Moves has commissioned, presented and nurtured choreographers of color across the spectrum of contemporary dance idioms to create new work. In celebration of this anniversary, Harlem Stage will present 6 nights of dance featuring 2 commissioned artists presenting new works. In addition to the 2 new works, each night will feature additional choreographers and a pop-up performance by up-and-coming choreographers.
