‘InsideOut: NY Together’ Created a 40-Foot-Wall in Garment District ~ Want Your Portrait Taken? You Have Until October 8th!

Remember the Garment District Alliance ‘Call for Mural Artists’ in June? Well, The Garment District Alliance (GDA) announced today the launch of Inside Out: NY Together, a public art installation that will transform the wall outside the Port Authority Midtown Bus Terminal in the Garment District into a massive, 40-foot gallery featuring the diverse individuals that make up New York City.

Beginning on October 3, New Yorkers passing through the neighborhood can have their portraits taken, which will be printed in real-time and featured outside Port Authority’s iconic, major transportation hub in the heart of Midtown Manhattan. Presented by GDA in collaboration with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ), Inside Out: NY Together will represent how New Yorkers come from all walks of life, and together, make the city one of the greatest in the world.

In the Summer of 2018, do you remember seeing a fifty-three-foot long trailer tuck (the mobile studio) in your neighborhood? The trailer truck spent a month driving through all five boroughs, checking out numerous locations, taking photographs of people from all walks of life who wished to participate in French-artist, JR’s project, The Chronicles of New York, which coincides with his current retrospective, JR: Chronicles, at Brooklyn Museum of Art.

The Brooklyn Museum will open its Great Hall to a soaring multimedia installation tracing French artist, JR’s career from his early documentation of graffiti artists as a teenager in Paris, to his large-scale architectural interventions in cities worldwide, to his more recent digitally collaged murals that create collective portraits of diverse publics.
