NYC DOT Summer Streets 2022 will return for its 14th edition, extending the fun and free activities from Centre Street, Lafayette Street, and Park Avenue from the Brooklyn Bridge to East 109th Street in East Harlem! The nearly two-mile expansion of the Summer Streets program was announced by the Mayors office on July 21, 2022. Save the Dates, August 6th, 13, and 20th from 7:00am to 1:00pm.
This summer, Union Square is hosting several public art installations, promoting social justice. The first of the installations ~ a Street Busway Mural entitled ‘Collective Vision’ ~ was just completed.

NYC Parks and NYC Department of Sanitation (DSNY) announced a path forward for Big Reuse composting operations. The $11M park renovation project will be abutting Queensbridge NYCHA housing. A community input meeting on this project will take place in January, 2021.
The Garment District Alliance unveiled its annual green oasis ~ Urban Garden ~ along with the 180-foot painted mural, Nymph Pond, created by artist Carla Torres along the Broadway Mall between 37th ~ 38th Streets on July 9th.
Car Free Earth Day 2019 is an annual car-free event held on the Saturday immediately following Earth Day. The Event opens thirty blocks of Broadway from Times Square to Union Square from 9am to 3pm. Within this area, there are six rest stop that include Times Square (42nd Street & Broadway); The Garment District (38th Street & Broadway); Herald Square(34th Street & Broadway); City Zone (26th Street & Broadway); Flatiron (23rd Street & Broadway); and Union Square (17th Street & Broadway).
