Rockaway Beach Revitalization Unveils a $4.7 Million Shore Front Parkway Adventure Course and Pickleball Court

NYC Parks Commissioner Sue Donoghue joined Queens Borough President Donovan Richards, Assemblywoman Stacey Pheffer Amato, Council Member Joann Ariola, Community Board 14 Chair Dolores Orr,  representatives from USA Pickleball, children from camp P.S. 317 and the Millennium Development Summer Program, and members of the community to cut the ribbon on the brand new adventure course and pickleball court in Rockaway Beach. The new adventure course and pickleball court are part of continued efforts to rebuild Rockaway after hurricane Sandy in 2012.

Liberty Bell is an animated, monumental, and richly sonorous augmented reality (AR) drawing in 360 degrees. The public artwork will be geolocated at a series of sites and experienced on smartphones and tablets through Baker Cahill’s free 4th Wall app. This project, which is two years in the making, lives at the vibrant intersection of public art, social consciousness, and tech. It is being presented simultaneously in six cities in the United States: Boston, MA, Charleston, SC, Philadelphia, PA, Rockaway, NY, Selma, AL, and Washington, DC.

Contemporary artist Kris Perrys monumental sculpture Mother Earth will be installed at Rockaway Beach (Queens) as part of the NYC Parks’ Art in the Parks program, which brings both experimental and traditional art to the public in locations throughout the five boroughs.
