CCCADI ~ Making Music in El Barrio

 

 

 

The Caribbean Cultural Center African Diaspora Institute (CCCADI) moved into a historic firehouse in East Harlem in 2016.  Since then, a plethora of art, education and entertainment have filled the floors within. Here are a few events coming up that caught our eye.

Thursday, April 19th from 6-8pm  ~  A New Borinquen Designed by Boricuas: Talk + Preview Screening  This talk will focus on new models and practices as they pertain to the broken and oppressive economic systems of Puerto Rico, and how these have activated the birth of Just Recovery/Transition.  Free with RSVP

Thursday, April 26th from 6-8pm  ~  When the Spirits Dance, Book Signing and Talk with Dr. Marta Moreno Vega. Free with RSVP

Thursday, May 3rd  ~  Sankofa Series: Afro Latin@s of the 21st Century with Griselda Rodriguez  ~  General Admission is $10 per session, Students and Seniors $7.00  (the next in the Sankofa Series will be held on Thursday, July 12th)

Thursday, May 3 at 6pm  ~  Orisha Beaded Emblems: Art Workshop Series.  Space is limited for this event. $125.00 registration fee with RSVP.  This series will be repeated again on Thursday, May 31st at 8pm

Saturday, May 12th from 11am to 3pm  ~  Mami Sousou! Celebrating our Mothers!  A free family-friendly African Diaspora art and cultural event, featuring artist-in-residence, Callaloo Kids + more

Tuesday, May 22nd at 6pm  ~  A Mouth is Always Muzzled ~ Book Signing & Talk with Natalie Hopkinson.  Free event with RSVP.  This event will be repeated again on Sunday, April 22nd at 8pm

Explore the creative documentation and stories told through the Defend Puerto Rico trans media project at CCCADI’s current exhibit, Defend Puerto Rico on view to June 9th. Check calendar for related programming.
