
NYC Parks and Chess in the Schools once again hosted the City’s most anticipated annual public chess tournament, The 20th Annual Chess in the Park Rapid Open, free and open to everyone who loves the game. Cancelled last year due to Covid-19, Chess in the Park Rapid Open is back!

In addition to the main tournament there will be a full menu of chess-inspired fun and brain-stimulating activities including a Grandmaster Speed Chess Match and chess puzzles to test your skill. The event is free and open to people of all ages. Prizes will include chess books donated by grandmasters.

Chess in the Park ~ Rapid Open ~ Returned on Saturday, September 18, 2021. Check in at 8:30-10:00am; Opening Remarks at 10:45am; Rounds from 11:00 to 4:00pm, followed by the Awards Ceremony at 4:30pm. The location will be at Bethesda Fountain in Central Park (enter at 72nd Street), NYC. The Event was limited to the first 700 entrants, with sets and boards provided.
