On the heals of the opening of T. rex: The Ultimate Predator at The American Museum of Natural History, The Bronx Zoo announced the biggest, most realistic Dinosaur Safari ride in the Country ~ opening in April!
The Bronx Zoo opens its gates to prehistoric times, on a guided tour learning about dinosaurs of the past, and animals of the present. Spend time at a dig site uncovering fossils, walk with life-size dinosaurs and take a Dinosaur Safari through a two-acre wooded section of the zoo, viewing the likes of forty realistic, life-sized animatronics, including a 40-foot long Tyrannosaurus rex, Spinosaurus, which was one of the largest carnivorous dinosaurs to roam the Earth, and sixty-foot, from head to tail, Omeisaurus ~ all created with the help of the American Museum of Natural History paleontologist, Carl Mehling, and “Dino” Don Lessem, a dinosaur expert who has authored dozens of popular science books and served as advisor on the production of the original Jurassic Park film.
“The Dinosaur Safari experience is twice the size of past Bronx Zoo dinosaur exhibits,” said Jim Breheny, Bronx Zoo Director and WCS Executive Vice President of Zoos and Aquarium. “Our visitors have loved experiencing these gigantic animatronic dinosaurs up close. It’s a thrilling experience and a learning one, too. Both dinosaurs and wildlife today developed adaptations that help them survive in their native habitats. This experience highlights some of those adaptive behaviors and characteristics.”
