Flow.17 on Randall’s Island

Join 2017 FLOW artist Rose DeSiano on Saturday, October 21 from 2:00-3:00pm and learn about this year’s FLOW art pieces, discuss the history of the Island, and talk about photographic composition and story-telling. Bring your camera and capture island images. This is a free event. Meet on Randall’s Island Connector.

For the seventh year, Randall’s Island Park Alliance and Bronx Museum of the Arts, in partnership with NYC Parks, present Flow. The exhibit for Flow.17 is artist Rose DeSiano’s site-specific installation entitled “Island of Empirical Data and Other Fabrications.” Using historical records, statistical data, photo archives and government documents, with a focus on Randall’s Island Park, the artist combines photographs with the historical data, exploring our culturally-constructed, complex histories. The installation displays an appreciation of the history and ecology of the island through artistic expression.

The two, large-scale, interactive photo panels also reflect the greenery of the Park, with the urban landscape as a backdrop. It also reflects all who stand before them.

Take a Flow.17 Photo Tour on Saturday, September 16 from 2pm-3pm.

The installation, “Island of Empirical Data and Other Fabrications, 2017,” will be on view through November, 2017, at the entrance to the Park at 103rd Street – to the left and right of the bridge off-ramp. Below are photos of the exhibit taken from different angels.
