The East River Plaza and Blumenfeld Development Group have given a permanent home to several of the Gates, created by beloved Harlem Artist, Franco ‘The Great’ Gaskin.
Known as The Picasso of Harlem, Franco The Great, who is now 91, began painting the metal gates along West 125th Street in 1978. Since that time, the shops have come and gone, along with many of the painted gates. We were pleased to learn that the Blumenfeld Development Group have permanently installed several of the iconic pieces at East River Plaza.
Below are three Gates that are placed side-by-side along the walkway to Costco.
The Gates, painted by Franco the Great, are in good company along with Victor Carcia’s Too Many Faces and Personalities of New York ~ the first mural of an art series featured at East River Plaza.
