Every July 14th, New Yorkers celebrate Bastille Day, the anniversary of the storming of the Bastille on July 14, 1789. Formally called the Fête nationale française, there are a plethora of activities. Here are a few suggestions.

Join French Institute Alliance Française on Madison Avenue from 59th to 63rd Streets, NYC ~ July 14th

FIAF’s annual celebration of France’s national holiday is the largest in New York City and welcomes over 25,000 people. This year’s fête promises to be bigger than ever with can’t miss cultural programming, a Champagne Party, two film screenings, more than 50 French and local vendor booths, and free activities for all ages. The event will take place from Noon to 5pm on Madison Avenue from 59th to 63rd Streets.

Bastille Day 2018 on 60th Street

InsideOut – Les Visages De La Francophonie, New York ~ 50 Portraits! This action takes place in the context of a global project within the network of the Alliance Francaises in the world. The aim is to show the faces of Francophonie across different Alliances Françaises and different cities around the world. Each participating AF will create their own collage of their community while being part of a large-scale initiative to highlight the diversity of the French speaking world. On July 14, we’ll be celebrating Bastille Day with cultural events and a street fair around our building (Upper East Side, Manhattan). We already booked the photo booth for that specific festive celebration!

Here’s the scoop ~

Have your photo taken to be part of an international, immersive art project during the L’Alliance New York’s Bastille Day celebration on Madison Avenue. On Sunday, July 14, from 12pm to 5 pm, New Yorkers can have their photo taken in the “Inside Out” photo truck and then paste their self-portrait posters on the Madison Avenue street – participating in a city-block long mural that will be on display all day until 8pm on Madison Avenue between East 59th & East 60th Streets.
The world-wide network of Alliances Françaises are participating in “Inside Out,” a global public art project created by artist JR. Participating Alliances will capture the portraits of people in different cities and countries to highlight the diversity of the French-speaking world. Each Alliance Française will create their own unique community installation, and together, will create a giant global mosaic.

The Greater NY Citroen & Velosolex Club ~ July 14th

Join The Consulat général de France à New York in Central Park ~ July 14th

On July 14, 2024, to celebrate Bastille Day, the Consulate General of France in New York and its partners invite all New Yorkers to an exceptional music festival in the heart of Central Park, featuring iconic French and French-speaking artists. Among them, the group Magic System, who has made many generations dance for twenty years around the world, through a playful rhythm with Ivorian coupé-décalé sounds, with songs such as “Ambiance à l’africaine”, “Chérie Coco” and “Magic in the Air”. The event will take place at the Rumsey Playfield, entrance on 5th Avenue at 72nd Street, from 5-10pm.

Take a walk past the New York headquarters of Villa Albertine and see the four-foot-tall sculpture of The Little Prince perched on the garden wall along Fifth Avenue.
