Hauser & Wirth will kick off its summer season in Southampton with a special exhibition celebrating its diverse family of artists.

Staged across both floors of the gallery, and featuring two sculptures by George Condo in the adjacent Southampton Arts Center garden, highlights include a luminous new painting from Allison Katz’s ‘Cabbage (and Philip)’ series; ‘Splintered’ (2019), a ten-foot-wide painting by Angel Otero—whose solo exhibition at Hauser & Wirth Hong Kong opens 1 June—using the artist’s signature oil skins technique; and abstract masterpieces by legendary British painter Sir Frank Bowling, who is currently the subject of a major survey exhibition at the San Francisco Museum Of Modern Art and an upcoming solo presentation at Hauser & Wirth West Hollywood, opening 26 May.

Entitled ‘Escape’, this exhibition will be on view from May 27 to June 25, 2023 at Hauser & Wirth Southhampton

This focused exhibition of twelve new watercolors by celebrated conceptual artist Charles Gaines will provide an intimate encounter with the systems and processes through which the artist creates his constantly evolving ‘Numbers and Trees’ series. Trees have been a central motif in Gaines’s distinguished practice since he first began his ‘Walnut Tree Orchard’ series in the 1970s. His methodical examination of their forms continues in this latest series inspired by cottonwood trees he photographed on a recent trip to Arizona. The cottonwood trees Gaines observed during his travels form the basis of the Plexiglas works he will debut in his forthcoming solo exhibition at the Phoenix Art Museum in November 2024.
August 5 to September 30, Two Pieces in the Shape of a Pear

In August, Hauser & Wirth will host a special exhibition guest-curated by renowned American artist Pat Steir. Pairing works by Cindy Sherman and Mickalene Thomas, Rita Ackermann and Avery Singer, Mary Heilmann and Martha Tuttle, and Rashid Johnson and Steir herself, this presentation aims to spark fresh associations through unexpected juxtapositions and provide a unique context in which to experience each artist’s work.

Hauser & Wirth Southampton is located at 9 Main Street, Southampton, NY.
