Free Historic Walking Tours of NYC’s Flatiron District

Another sign that New York has thrown open its doors to ‘Back to Normal‘ is the news that The Flatiron/23rd Street Partnership’s Historic Flatiron Walking Tours will return to an in-person format on Sunday, July 18, 2021, at 11:00 AM for the first time since the COVID pandemic began. Following a year of virtual tours, the Partnership’s professional guides will return to the streets, leading groups on a fascinating stroll through the historic and vibrant Flatiron District. The tours are FREE and will take place every Sunday morning at 11:00 AM, rain or shine, year-round. No advance registration is required.

“We are excited to offer our historic walking tours in person once again. Over the years, thousands of guests from across the globe have discovered that this quintessential New York City experience is an unbeatable way to explore one of Manhattan’s most historic neighborhoods. Whether you’re a native New Yorker or a first-time visitor, you will have a great time and learn a lot from our knowledgeable guides,” said James Mettham, Executive Director of the Flatiron/23rd Street Partnership

The tours highlight some of the city’s most notable landmarks, including the Flatiron Building, New York Life Insurance Building, MetLife Clock Tower, and Appellate Courthouse. Over the past decade, more than 6,900 people from 60 countries and more than 460 cities in the United States and Canada have participated. When the pandemic hit, the Flatiron Partnership moved the tours to a virtual format on a monthly basis.

Historians who will once again lead the weekly tours on a rotating basis are: Miriam Berman, author of Madison Square: The Park and Its Celebrated Landmarks and New York in Words and Images, a book of New York postcards; Mike Kaback, a native New Yorker who has an unquenchable enthusiasm for everything about the city; and, Fred Cookinham, author of The Age of Rand: Imagining an Objectivist Future World.

The Flatiron/23rd Street Partnership’s Historic Flatiron Walking Tours will take place on Sundays at 11:00am, beginning July 18, 2021. The tour meets at the tip of the Flatiron Building on 23rd Street, just east of 5th Avenue ~ and it’s FREE!

Masks are welcome, but not required. Unvaccinated guests are encouraged to follow CDC guidelines and wear a mask. Each group of guests is advised to maintain social distance.
