Jazzmobile held its annual community fundraiser on Monday evening, April 30th at First Corinthian Baptist Church in Harlem, and it was smokin! Didn’t make it? We have you covered. Here are a few pictures from the event and a way that you can participate in the Jazzmobile fundraiser even if you weren’t there.
Jazzmobile’s Keep the Music Playing! was billed as a celebration of America’s classical music ~ jazz. But for the audience, it was a celebration of the commitment Jazzmobile has made to music, the musicians, and the community, with 45 artists donating their artistic ability for this evenings fund-raiser.
This annual fund-raiser has been one of the ways Jazzmobile has been able to put on free summer concerts, lecture demonstrations, Saturday jazz workshops Master Classes, national and international performances, and countless special programs since 1964.
The evening kicked-off with Jazzmobile SJW Master Class Jazz Band, The Celia Cruz Bronx High School of Music, and a welcome by the Director of Jazzmobile, Robin Bell-Stevens. Sheila Anderson, WBGO Jazz 88.3 On Air Host, took the helm as Emcee.
Below are a few photos of an extraordinary musical evening, including the presentation of The Jazzy Award to Johnnie Garry’s family.
We wish to thank Connie Lee, President of the Marcus Garvey Park Alliance and Public Art Initiative, one of the Partner’s of the Jazzmobile event, Keep the Music Playing, for a seat in the VIP section, from which these images came.
Also, thank you to Rev. Michael Walrond and his team of professionals at First Corinthian Baptist Church for opening their doors for this Event.
