Kenny Scharf: Inner and Outer Space on view at Deitch Project Soho.
While Kenny Scharf was born in Los Angeles, and resides there today, he attended the School of Visual Arts (BFA 1980) and was very much a part of the East Village art scene of the 1980s. His comic book inspired work has been a connecting thread to an evolving flow through pop culture’s changes over the past 30+ years in murals, paintings and sculpture, but his playful and optimistic style gives way to thoughtful messages for viewers to discover.
In the exhibit, Kenny Scharf: Inner and Outter Space, all appears to be melting. “I am reacting to our increasingly out-of-control situation,” describes Scharf, as viewers are encouraged to look beneath “the facade and focus on ecology, environment and capitalist excess.
Below are a few photos from our visit to Deitch Project, and Kenny Scharf: Inner and Outer Space.
