2019 Museum Day in New York City is a one-day event when participating museums and cultural institutions provide free entry to those presenting a ticket. Participants are permitted to download one ticket per email address, which allows two free general admissions.
This year’s Museum Day will take viewers from Staten Island, and Brooklyn throughout Manhattan, Long Island City, to the Bronx.
Checking Smithsonian’s 2019 list, some of the participating museums in our area are Alice Austen House; Asia Society; Bard Graduate Center Gallery, Barrow-Pell Mansion Museum, The Cooper Hewitt, Derfner Judaica Museum + The Art Collection at Hebrew Home at Riverdale (always free); Dyckman Farmhouse; Fraunces Tavern Museum, celebrating 300 years next month; Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum, Museum of Chinese in America; Museum of Food & Drink in Brooklyn; Museum of Illustration at the Society of Illustrators; Museum of the City of New York.
The National Museum of the American Indian; New York City Fire Museum; Newhouse Center for Contemporary Art at Snug Harbor; Staten Island Museum at Snug Harbor; The Jewish Museum; National Jazz Museum in Harlem; The Noble Maritime Collection in Staten Island; The Noguchi Museum in Long Island City; Old Stone House and Washington Park in Brooklyn; Van Cortlandt House Museum in the Bronx and Williamsburg Art & Historical Center in Brooklyn.
Two relatively new kids on the block will be open, The AKC Museum of the Dog and Poster House Museum (no ticket required for Poster House).
We expect more institutions to open their doors, and as they do, we will include. Some museums, like Poster House, are not listed on the Smithsonian site, but will be participating all that day.
