The 10th Annual Stan Michels Jazz Concert will be held on Saturday, August 11th in Fort Tryon Park on the promenade which is named for Stan Michels, alongside the Heather Garden overlooking the Hudson River from 12:30pm to 4:00pm.

Marjorie Eliot and her ensemble will be performing for this Free Event, honoring Stan Michels, who represented Northern Manhattan on the City Council for twenty-four years. He was chair of the Committee on Environmental Protection, and his legislative record was notable for his work fighting on behalf of tenants, for the expansion of the city’s recycling program, for the protection of the water supply and cleaner air, and against childhood lead poisoning, smoking in public places, and unreasonable noise. He was known to be a steadfast advocate for parks, allocating over $50 million for park improvements in Washington Heights, Inwood, and Harlem, including virtually every playground in his district. He passed away in 2008.
