The Beginning of an Annual Memorial Pet Tree in Marcus Garvey Park

Best find on Instagram today ~ the Marcus Garvey Park Alliance christened a spruce near the dog run in Marcus Garvey Park with the first of what will be many memorial tree ornaments each year.

As the Instagram suggests, this was inspired by the pet Christmas tree in Central Park. But unlike the Central Park memorial, the East Harlem tree is easy to find, near 120th Street between Fifth and Madison Avenues, in the shadow of the recently renovated historic Harlem Fire Watchtower.

The President of the Marcus Garvey Park Alliance, Connie Lee, hopes that this will be an annual Holiday memorial for beloved pets of every kind ~ from birds to cats and dogs and more.
