With re-development ready to begin on the beloved Sunshine Movie Theater, we thought it a good time to take a look at renderings of what will replace the 100-year-old building, and home to independent and foreign films. located at 141 East Houston Street, the Sunshine Theater closed its doors for the last time in January, 2018.

The Sunshine, whose lease expired in 2018, will be re-developed into a mixed-use retail and office project, designed by Roger Ferris Architecture. Crain’s New York Business reported that Developers East End Capital and K Property Group just received financing and will break ground on the planned six-story, 68,000 square-foot office property this year. Below are renderings posted by East End Capital.

We couldn’t end this post without a look back at the Sunshine Theater ticket booth.

Just what we need …… another glass box ! At least the lovely facade should have been landmarked and build the new crap behind it.
Exactly….glass enclosure could be built around the facade. The developers make so much money, they could put some dollars in partial preservation. Oh the senseless greed..
Sad….what a shame.
