Leica Store New York Soho presents the exhibit “The Eyes of the City” by photographer Richard Sandler
The Eyes of the City by photographer Richard Sandler, a photographic blast-from-the-past of New York City in the 1970s and 1980s, will be on view at the Leica Store in Soho next week. Sandler’s work captures a time lost in places now unrecognizable. “In the 1980s crime and crack were on the rise and their effects were socially devastating. Times Square, Harlem, and the East Village were seeded with hard drugs, while in Midtown Manhattan, and on Wall Street, the rich flaunted their furs in unprecedented numbers, and – greed was good.”
Sandler, a renowned New York-based documentary filmmaker, street photographer, photo-journalist (and saxophonist), shares these images in this exhibit, and also in his book by the same name, exploring street life in this city between the years 1977 and 2001.
The Eyes of the City: Richard Sandler will be on view from October 5 to December 2, 2017, with an opening reception on October 5 at 6pm. The Leica Store Soho is located at 460 West Broadway. Read more about Richard Sandler and this exhibit in The Villager.
