Adding to our list of what not-to-miss during Frieze Week (New York, 2021), is the satellite exhibition entitled, Salon Zürcher: 11 Women of Spirit, the works of 11 distinguished female artists.
Femmes d’esprit was an 18th-century French term that referred to independently-minded female painters, writers, and intellectuals, routinely under-recognized by their male contemporaries and publics. In keeping with the spirit of artistic salons, 11 Women of the Spirit involves the presence of the 11 participating artists.

During this exhibition, collectors will have the opportunity to speak directly with the artists, who will be on site during the fair. Between its two locations, Zürcher New York/Paris has hosted 23 fairs.
The 11 artists include: Susan Bee ~ Cathy Diamond ~ Laurie Fendrich ~ Lucero Gonzalez Jameson ~ Margaret Jolly ~ Gwyneth Leech ~ Nicole Parcher ~ Dee Shapiro ~ Angela Valeria ~ Anne De Villemejane ~ Betsy Weis

Highlighting one of the artists, the image below is the work of French sculptor artist, Anne de Villeméjane, who forges ethereal figures of women using construction materials including cement, metal wiring, mesh, and nails. Villeméjane began her prolific sculpture practice in 2000 after a successful career in business and marketing. Since then, her work has been steadily presented and placed in private collections around the world. Appropriately for an all-woman show, her work depicts the dual forces of strength and vulnerability that she sees in femininity.

Salon Zürcher: 11 Women of Spirit will be on view during Frieze New York 2021 from May 3 to May 9, 2021 at Zürcher Gallery, 33 Bleecker Street, NYC. Social distance guidelines will be in effect. All visitors to the gallery are required to wear a face covering. Hours will be Monday, May 3rd from 6-8pm; Tuesday, May 4 through Saturday, May 8th, Noon to 8pm; Sunday, May 9th from Noon to 5pm.
In addition to the in-gallery exhibition, Salon Zürcher will be collaborating with a curator to produce a video tour, which will be published on YouTube, and will present an online view room of select works in this exhibition. Stay tuned for links.
