Let’s kick-off the Fall Season with a few annual favorites ~ The Blessing of the Animals; The Atlantic Antic™ Festival; Archtober & Open House New York; The Little Red Lighthouse Festival, NYCxDesign, Art in Odd Places; The Paper Dress Ball, and The New Yorker Festival. We expect beautiful Fall weather for the LES Arts & Culture Open House, First Thursday in DUMBO, and the Madison Avenue Fall Gallery Walk. The Apollo Theater ushers in a Festival of Arts & Ideas, and Trashion Fashion finally gets to strut its stuff in Morningside Park. October brings with it a much anticipated Triangle Fire Memorial dedication as well as a plethora of new gallery exhibitions, including a hardy welcome to White Cube NYC, opening its doors on Madison Avenue. Here are a few suggestions, ending with one of our favorite annual celebrations ~ Halloween.

Art Installations, Events & Exhibits in NYC ~ it’s the September 2023 GothamToGo Roundup

Sailing into Fall, September kicks-off with the annual Armory Show and Armory Art Week, and a plethora of exciting exhibitions and events all around town. Public Art Fund unveils Fred Eversley: Parabolic Light at the Doris C. Freedman Plaza, and Little Italy hosts the annual Feast of San Gennaro.  Lincoln Center hosts its 61st New York Film Festival and The West Side Cultural Network installs its inaugural West Side Fest! Morningside Park in Harlem holds a Trashion Fashion Show and its fun and colorful annual Morningside Lights event. Museums and galleries open their doors to exciting new exhibitions, as our city never loses sight of our loss on 9/11. Here are a few suggestions for the month of September.

Visiting ‘Abigail DeVille: Bronx Heavens’ at The Bronx Museum of the Arts

Currently on view at the Bronx Museum of the Arts is Abigail DeVille: Bronx Heavens, the artist’s first museum survey, examining the myths and realities of local familial and ancestral histories, and the convoluted notion of freedom in a country fraught with oppression and racism. The exhibition features DeVille’s work created over the past ten years, examining different aspects of the borough’s 120 year history as a haven for immigrant and migrant communities, including for several generations of DeVille’s family who have lived in the area and were part of the Great Migration.

Sprinting into Fall, September is filled with art, from The Armory Show, Armory OffSite and Armory week to The Poetry Festival, Feast of San Gennaro,  Morningside Lights and the Gracie Square Outdoor Art Show. We’re looking forward to a new installation at the Doric C. Freedman Plaza by Public Art Fund, Celebrating PEN America’s 100 years of defending free expression in lights by Jenny Holzer at Rockefeller Center, and a spectacular exhibition, Hall des Lumières, at the historic 49 Chambers Street. The Met unveils its September facade niches, and we remember 9/11 + a plethora of thoughtful, beautifully curated gallery exhibitions, and even a $3 movie-day at a theater near you! Here are a few suggestions for September.
