Carmen Herrera Mural Unveiled at JHS99 in East Harlem

The much anticipated Carmen Herrera designed mural, Uno Dos Tres, was unveiled today (November 5, 2020) in East Harlem’s JHS99, which houses semi-autonomous ‘mini-schools.’ ¬†Through the spring and summer of 2020, the artist worked with the nonprofit Publicolor to install the 54-foot wide by 17-foot tall artwork, which was meant to be installed last May in celebration of Herrera’s birthday.

Carmen Herrera: Estructuras Monumentales. This sculpture entitled “Angulo Rojo, 2017”

The Public Art Fund unveiled the installation, Estructuras Monumentales by the well-know, Cuban-born, New York artist, Carmen Herrera in City Hall Park. This significant body of work is Herrera’s first major outdoor sculpture exhibition ~ having spent more than 70 years as an abstract painter. It is also significant that Ms. Herrera is 104 years of age.
