Next spring, the exhibition Vivian Maier (from May 31, 2024 to September 2024) at Fotografiska New York will be the first institution to present the extraordinary work of this invisible artist in the United States. Vivian Maier, born in New York in 1926, spent her early years in the Bronx, and New York was the city where she began to photograph and build her visual language, while she was a nanny as it was her profession. This exhibition focuses on the whole of her work, from the early 1950s to the mid-1980s, through around 200 works, vintage or modern prints, color, black and white, super 8 films and soundtracks, offering a complete vision of the dense, rich and complex architecture of this archive that provides a fascinating testimony to post-war America and the hell of the American dream.
