The Downtown Alliance just unveiled its fourth public art installation ~ two glowing projects that include a stunning pair of two 21-foot-tall sculptures entitled Talking Heads, and the sculpture “C/C” ~ a bench for seating, which casts complex shadows by day and transforms into a colorful LED light show at night. Both public art projects are on loan from Amsterdam’s Light Art Collection.

“Winter is a time when many New Yorkers might need some additional light and whimsy in their lives,” Downtown Alliance President Jessica Lappin said. “This is a great historic location that is also convenient to the fun restaurants on nearby Stone Street.”
The sculptures, Talking Heads, conduct conversations by means of light. As human beings we are capable of numerous facial expressions by the use of several dozens of muscles. It enables us to show all kinds of emotions to someone else, hoping that the other will understand us and react adequately. When you look sad, I am inclined to comfort you. When I laugh, I invite you to join me in laughing. Communicating without using words. The installation is made up of two massive heads, dotted with 4,000 LED lights. The stunning heads are the creation of Hungarian Light artist and Limelight Co-Founder, Viktor Vicsek.
“C/C” is a sculptural piece that functions as a sitting area made of contoured acrylic panels bound by steel. Meant to showcase “clear to colors” the piece casts complex shadows by day and transforms into a colorful LED light show at night. Designed by Singapore-based artist Angela Chong, “C/C” has a futuristic feel and offers viewers a dynamic show of color.
Talking Heads and C/C will be on view at 85 Broad Street through March 21, 2021.
