Nestled on the corner of Canal Street and Eldridge Street, on the Lower East Side, is the Cup & Saucer Luncheonette. It’s owners have been flipping burgers and blueberry pancakes – most days from 6:00 am to 5 pm, seven days a week since 1988. But with the recent increase in monthly rent to $15,000, the beloved Cup & Saucer and its owners, John Vasilopoulos and Nick Castanos, made the decision to close.
The lights will go out at the Cup & Saucer, 89 Canal Street, on Monday, July 17, 2017. Below are a few images we took on a rainy Friday, with a 15-minute wait for a counter stool, just three days before the grill shuts down.
A little history of this tiny shop at The Lo-Down.
