Reka Nyari continues her erotically charged, large-scale grisaille photographs with a new exhibition, Valkyrie Ink, at Emmanuel Fremin Gallery.

Reka Nyari continues her narrative, capturing the nude female form, lavishly adored with tattoos.  The first in this series, GEISHA INK, “tells the intoxicating story of Ginzilla, revealing and subverting female archetypes through a visual exploration of sexuality, taboos, eroticism and culture.”  Introduced in 2017, this was the artist’s first solo exhibit at the Gallery.

Continuing on with this narrative, Reka Nyari: Valkrie Ink is a presentation of 13 new works, exploring “a central element of Nyari’s practice ~ intimate studies of self-identity and female empowerment through nude portraiture.”  In this new series, Valkyrie Ink portrays Eowyn, “a young woman who endured a great deal of trauma since her childhood……”  Viewers come to know the subject through “the undulating lines, symbols, and words that cover her skin” ~ and find that for Eowyn, this has become her “emblematic suit of armor.”

Reka Nyari: Valkyrie Ink will be on view from March 1 to April 15 at Emmanuel Fremin Gallery, 547 West 27th Street, Suite 510.  Artist’s Reception to be held on Thursday, March 1 from 6-8pm.

Reka Nyari is a Finnish/Hungarian artist living and working in New York City.  Geisha Ink Book Signing will be held on Thursday, March 8th from 6-8pm at Emmanuel Fremin Gallery.
