The whimsical exhibit Super Ordinary by artist Yuki Matsueda will open today at Blank Space. Creating and expanding from the familiar, Matsueda “presents the charming disposition of ordinary objects,” surprising and delighting viewers, as with the image “Super Egg Pack” ( below) where he “wished to express the vitality of the egg by having the yolk break out of its hard shell.” His re-interpretation of Andy Warhol’s Campbell soup cans surprise the viewer not only with the can – outside the label, but with a surprise in each can.

The artist, Yuki Matsueda (b.1980) was born in Ibaraki province in Japan and received a Ph.D. in Design at Tokyo University of Arts. The exhibit Super Ordinary is his first solo show in New York, and will be on view to November 19, 2017 at Blank Space, 30 Gansevoort Street, at Hudson Street. Opening Reception will be held on September 21 from 6-8pm.
